Transcript:

Something that I notice with a lot of people that I know is that they buy those new off the shelf hair colouring products. Is that a good idea?

Truthfully, it isn’t! These hair colors that are on the shelf are full of harsh chemicals. They are known to cause women terrible headaches, stinging eyes, terrible breathing. They’ve caused rashes before and now they are linking them to some forms of cancer.

So no, to answer that question, using box color is never a good idea. They have to put an extensive amount of chemicals in there for them to survive the shelf life that they need to be able to sustain while they’re in the store.

Women just don’t know that. If you’re not trained and you’re not informed then you’re just buying this convenient little box and going home and pouring ammonia and formaldehyde and all kinds of other chemicals on your hair.

Well, when you put it that way, it’s kind of a no brainer. When you go to a professional salon like yours and they’re using all organic chemicals or all organic materials and not these artificial chemicals, you don’t have that ammonia.

No.

Nothing’s coming out on your hair, that’s going to be cancer causing. Is that right?

That’s correct! These products are 100% organic; they’re 100% hypoallergenic. In all the years that I have been using them both professionally and personally, I have never come across or experienced an adverse reaction to them.

Something else that is also a risk factor when you’re using synthetic colors, is the inhalation. The organic products have a lower concentration of these cancer causing, cough-causing chemicals that also cause throat irritation.

So there are many benefits to using the organic hair line, both health benefits and also physical benefits to the hair. It’s like taking a multi-vitamin.

Do organic products last as long as the traditional ones?

Yes, they do and thank you for asking that question, because one of the biggest misunderstandings about organic hair color is that it fades or that it does not have the life span or the strength of synthetic hair color and that is just not true; because it’s organic, it’s even more intense.

The dyes are plant and food based. And so they’re even more intense than these man-made synthetic colors that you find in non-organic products.

To answer that question… yes, organic hair color not only is it going to last longer, women are going to get more weeks out of it in between each service and their color is not going to fade.

For example, let’s take a red head. We all look fantastic the first couple days after we’ve been to the hair salon. But the red head over time is going to fade. And by the time she goes in 5 weeks later to get their hair done, her hair doesn’t look anything like it did when she started off.

That’s not the case with organic color. It’s going to stay true to its color from service to service.

Transcript:

Tell us, how do you go about discovering someone’s best look?

Yes, we take into consideration several factors. Probably the most important one being some physical factors such as the face shape, skin tone, eye color, bone structure, and body shape.

We also take into consideration the hair characteristics like hair texture and the natural hair color. Finally, personal factors: their personality, their lifestyle, their age, things like that.

What does your hair say about you? Is that something that people notice?

Absolutely! In fact, 74% of people polled say that the first thing that they notice about a person is their hair.

I’ll vouch for that, I do notice that right away.

Yes, in fact 44% of men say that hair is the first thing that they notice about a woman. It’s not their curves and it’s not their clothes or their make-up but it’s their hair.

What are some of the factors that you take into consideration? I mean everyone’s going to be different, how do you decide the best hair style for yourself?

Again, it goes back to your body shape, it goes back to your bone structure and it goes back to your lifestyle. For example, I’m not going to create a hairstyle for a woman who is not used to doing a lot of maintenance for her hair.

If she’s on the go and she’s busy, she’s going to need a style and a look that is easy for her to do and achieve at home without having to do a lot.

Okay, good point. That’s where someone like you would come in handy because you may not know really what’s best for yourself, is that right? I mean, you may have an idea but you really need a professional.

Yes, it’s really true. I mean, in the beauty industry we always like to refer to Snow White and the queen addressing the magic mirror, saying “Mirror, mirror on the wall… who’s the fairest of them all?”

The point is that we all really need a mirror – a person that will tell us the truth in a way that doesn’t hurt and tear down, but instead a truth that encourages them and builds them up; someone who has a trained sharp eye who is also familiar with the latest trends.

Everybody needs a professional who knows what is a good look for them and what is the best look for them based on those factors that we talked about before.

Click the image above to listen to the interview about the most popular hair questions women ask…

Transcript:

What I’d like to do, since I have you with us, is ask you some of those questions that I think women would be dying to ask right now.

Okay.

One question would be, is blonde better?

Blonde is not better. It really depends on the person that you’re talking to. But as a general blanket statement, no, blonde doesn’t necessarily mean better.

The beauty industry today tries to say that blonde is the way to go. I have more women that come into the salon who aren’t meant to be blonde, who want to be blonde, because either their boyfriend or their husband has told them “Gosh, I really wish you were blonde” because they think that blondes are more attractive.

There is nothing attractive about a woman who is trying to be something that she’s not. In fact, what’s more attractive and what’s truly beautiful is enhancing a woman’s natural beauty and making that beautiful.

That’s a wonderful thing!

I definitely disagree that blondes are better. There’s nothing better about making your hair do something that it’s not supposed to do.

Okay! What about the natural look, as well as getting a little bit older, should they let their hair grow gray?

I think that there’s a point in every person’s life when going gray is acceptable. I just think that people need to be reminded, especially women, because this doesn’t really apply to men because as men age and those gray hairs pop-up society thinks that’s sexy and it’s a sign of wisdom.

It’s not so for women. For women it’s a sign of age and laziness. I think that women need to keep in mind that gray hair does age you in a way that it doesn’t age men. The only time really that a woman should consider going gray is when she’s old enough to be able to support the stereotype that being gray offers.

I don’t let any of my clients under the age of 70 go gray. They don’t have to have that same dark vibrant hair color that they did in their 30’s but that doesn’t mean that they need to have white hair. They can have a lighter version of their hair and look 20 years younger.

The only time I’m a supporter of going gray is if you are old enough to be able to support having gray hair.

Here’s a thought from a guy’s perspective, “I naturally think long hair is sexier than short hair.” Do you agree though?

No, I don’t agree. In fact, 78% of men polled will admit that they find shorter hair sexier on a woman. 44% of those men will say that they are drawn to longer hair, but think that shorter hair is sexier on a woman because it takes more confidence for a woman to be able to have short hair.

Again, if women would just embrace a look that compliments their bone structure, I think a lot of women that are walking around with long hair would look 10 times more beautiful if they had shorter hair. Because we would get to see the lines of their face, and their features would stand out more, but there’s something in society that associates length with sexiness, instead of confidence with sexiness.

Cristine, we were almost out of time, but I want to take one minute and have you talk a little about your specialty. Can you talk about brides and bridal parties?

Yes, thank you for asking. I’d love to be able to do that. I have been doing make-up and now being a professional make-up artist for about 25 years.

It’s a secret passion that I have. I do brides and I do all special occasion make-up. I use only the leading organic make-up in the industry; it’s called Eco Envy Make-up from Australia. It’s 100% organic vegan and animal cruelty free. It is very good for the skin; it is not going to break down as the day goes on, and especially for brides, it’s important to not only look beautiful as you’re walking down that aisle, but it’s important to look beautiful the next morning when you wake up with your husband.

That’s something that I promise to all of my brides,”When I do your make-up, I’m going to be setting that make-up that will last 12-16 hours. You’re not going to have worry about your eye shadow breaking down or looking any less fresh the next morning than you did when you said I do.”

It’s this last clause that differentiates vegetarian and vegan products: Vegetarian products contain no animal ingredients, but they may contain animal-produced ingredients, such as honey or beeswax. Vegan products contain no honey, beeswax, or any other animal-produced ingredients.

What are parabens? Parabens are synthetic preservatives used in cosmetics and personal care products, and can give many people allergic reactions. There are many types of Parabens such as,propylparaben, methylparaben and butylparaben; these are synthetic preservatives commonly used in cosmetics and personal care products like shampoos, skin creams and deodorants. They are suspected to be endocrine disruptors, and they have been found to mimic estrogen in laboratory experiments. Many people have allergic reactions to these preservatives causing skin rashes and irritation. Needless to say, there is a great ongoing debate as to the safety of products containing parabens.

Skin is the largest organ of the body and absorbs whatever you put onto it; therefore, it is vital to keep the ingredients that we use non-toxic. Through the use of organic, chemical-free products we believe that we have a much better chance at fighting unwanted aggravations, and possibly even cancer. Here at Organic Envy Salon, we strongly feel it is in our best interests to stay aware of what is in all of the products, lotions, makeup and hair products that we add to our bodies. Have you ever turned over the bottle of product, and took a real look at all the long names of ingredients that you cannot even pronounce? Rest assured that upon further research you might be appalled as to what you would find out and wonder “why am I using this stuff?”

Fortunately, there is a growing demand for paraben-free products with the increasing awareness of the harmful effects of these ingredients. It is a scary thought to think that so many of the products that we use contain so many ingredients that can have long term harmful effects to our health. It is best to be educated about what we are really using on ourselves, clients and our children.

Thankfully, at Organic Envy Salon we offer a color line that’s paraben-free, cruelty free, vegan and free from many other toxic chemicals that are commonly found in most professional hair color lines.

Contact us to schedule an appointment, where you will experience and actually feel the huge difference using organic hair color and products makes to your hair.

Many cancer patients and survivors are disappointed with the way their hair recovers after cancer treatments. Even after several months, their hair seems dry, brittle, frizzy, and unmanageable. The overall condition of the hair seems to have been comprised by varying textures, different rates of growth, and overall thinning. Although some of the side effects of cancer treatments that impact the health of a person’s hair can last for a long time, there are measures that can be taken to accelerate the hair’s recovery and restore beautiful, youthful, and healthy looking hair with more certainty in a shorter period of time.

Side Effects of Cancer Treatment to Human Hair Health

Thinning:

Cancer treatments are harsh on hair follicles. Stronger hair follicles will recover first and begin to generate hair. Some other hair follicles will begin to generate hair months after the last cancer treatment has ended, while the weaker hair follicles may have gone dormant. Because hair on the top of the head tends to grow from weaker follicles, many patients may notice that they experience more thinning at the top of the head rather than the sides where hair follicles tend to be stronger.

Color Change:

Many cancer patients complain that their hair begins to lack color or tone after cancer treatments. Actually, this is not usually the case. What does often happen is that the blended, or overall, color or tone of the hair may begin to change because the follicles of different colored hair strands die or go dormant.

Hair Texture:

After cancer treatment, hair may be kinky primarily because of uneven damage to the follicle, which means the hair grows at an angle, which will cause it to curl.

Dry Hair:

Cancer treatments will often cause severe damage to the sebaceous glands found in the scalp. These glands produce a light oily liquid known as sebum which naturally progresses up the outer cuticle of the hair fiber. This sebaceous system is what provides hair its natural moisture. With damaged sebum, it is difficult to cultivate healthy looking beautiful hair after cancer treatments unless it is properly cared for.

Brittle or Weak Hair:

Cancer treatments can leave the body with a debilitated capacity to regulate the distribution of different proteins. Hair is made of a delicate balance between protein and moisture. If hair is brittle and prone to breakage, or unmanageable because it seems almost too firm, then this is an indication that the hair is lacking moisture and has a high percentage of protein. If hair is weak and pulls apart, or is unmanageable because it seems almost too soft or gooey, then this is an indication that the hair is lacking protein and has a high percentage of moisture.

Caring for Hair After Cancer

Caring for clients that have been treated for cancer requires a basic sensitivity to the ingredients contained in the products that are used and recommend for them. It is important to carefully consider their medical situation of having many of their body’s natural defenses impaired by the cancer treatments that they received.

While most people, and definitely most cancer patients, are conscious and sensitive to the foods that they eat; they are less sensitive to the ingredients contained in the products they apply to their hair or skin. This is a horrifying mistake. Research has continually found that any chemicals applied to the hair or skin are immediately absorbed into the blood stream and can be found in urine tests within 30 minutes of application. This demonstrates a simple fact of the human digestive system that is often ignored by cosmologists and estheticians. Ingredients that are eaten are filtered through the bodies most fierce and relentless barrier found in the human body, which is the acids found in the stomach and the enzymes in the large and small intestines. Unfortunately, the ingredients that are applied to your hair or skin lack this natural super-filtration system and instead are absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the pores and follicles.

While most cosmetologists and estheticians understand that there are roughly 6,000 times more follicles and pores on the human scalp than any other part of the skin, it seems that pharmaceutical companies have only recently begun to understand this. This is best demonstrated by the recent surge in topical medication prescribed to be applied to the nape of the neck or the scalp itself. While more and more drugs are being applied to the scalp because of its direct access to the bloodstream, few practitioners, including beauty professionals, have been considering what the implications may be to toxic chemicals in hair products being applied directly to the scalp. While almost all knowledgeable professionals would never eat or drink their hair color or straightening products, they somehow do not question or hesitate applying it to their scalp! This is a consideration that must be taken into account when caring for clients who have been treated for cancer.

First, Do No Harm

Cancer treatments have a tendency to not only weaken a person’s hair, but also their immune system and vital organs. Because of this, a salon professional specializing in treating clients who have been treated for cancer must be more cautious of the ingredients contained in products. The delicate balance of performance and healthy ingredients must be carefully weighted toward harmless and healthy ingredients. Here are some of the recommendations from trained professionals well versed on this balance and how they can be applied to specific deficiencies cause by cancer treatments.

Avoid Ammonia At All Costs:

The liver is among the many organs that can be affected by cancer treatments. One primary function of the liver is to detoxify proteins of poisonous ammonia. This critical function can be burdened even more when introducing additional sources of ammonia into the blood stream through products like permanent hair color. To avoid elevated levels of ammonia in the body, and an overburdened liver that is already debilitated from cancer treatments, use Organic Color Systems which is the most natural and organic hair color product that does not sacrifice professional performance or exceptional results. Unfortunately, this hair color product is only available through licensed salon professionals and not sold to the general public.

Treating Thinning Hair:

Avoiding ammonia will also help restore thinning hair. Remember that hair follicles in men can die off but hair follicles in women most often are just dormant. Follicles can become dormant as a result of damage or clogging. The two most common sources of damage to hair follicles are ammonia and cancer treatment therapies. Another reason why hair follicles can go dormant is because they are clogged and unable to grow hair. This is most commonly due to plastics found in hair styling products. To clarify the scalp of plastics and other clogging impurities, use a product like Soothe Plus shampoo, conditioner, and treatments. Soothe Plus is a product is made with only 100% certified organic ingredients and is highly effective at gently removing plastics and other impurities from the scalp while enhancing blood circulation in the scalp without risk at damaging the hair follicles.

Hair Texture:

While any damage to the hair cuticle is bad, uneven damage caused by cancer treatments will affect the porosity and coarseness of hair, which will result in an unusual texture. To treat this unusual texture, consider a natural and organic protein treatment designed to even out porous hair with nourishing natural proteins. One such ideal product is Revamp, which fills and fortifies the cuticle with organic, plant derived proteins, which naturally bond with the hair and cultivate inner hair repair.

Dry, Brittle, or Weak Hair:

The delicate balance between protein and moisture in hair is critical to having healthy and lustrous hair. Ideally, healthy hair contains 87% moisture and 3% protein. To illustrate how delicate this balance is, consider that the only difference in substance between human hair and human fingernails is that human fingernails contain 3% more protein and almost no moisture. Because protein synthesis is jeopardized from cancer treatments, special care and consideration should be taken when dealing with clients who have been treated for cancer. When hair is deficient in protein, it is weak an can pull apart easily. This type of hair should be treated with Power Build Shampoo, Reconstructor, and Conditioner as well as Revamp treatment. When hair is deficient in moisture, it is brittle and should be treated with Aqua Boost Shampoo, Conditioner, and Reconstructor. When hair is weak and brittle, it is deficient in both protein and moisture and should be treated with Revamp and Aqua Boost Reconstructor as well as Status Quo Shampoo and Conditioner.

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), some hair dyes with safer ingredients may be safe to use during pregnancy because so little dye is absorbed through the skin. There are still several precautions that are recommended to take by health care providers.

“Consider waiting through the first trimester to receive chemical services, but if you insist on coloring your hair, use Organic Color Systems which contains more natural, organic, safer ingredients that all other permanent hair colors” says Dr. Stephen Mazer, who has been a practicing and consulting physician in both government and the private sector for over 40 years.

When considering having your hair colored or receiving any chemical treatments during pregnancy, one should carefully consider the products ingredients and consult their physician. By providing the doctor with a list of ingredients in the hair color or other chemicals to be used, they will be able to give well-informed recommendations. Please download a full list of ingredients found in Organic Color Systems to bring to your physician.

According to Dr. Stephen Mazer, “Sometimes during pregnancy a women might find herself sensitive to products that wouldn’t ordinarily effect her. It is advised that a Skin allergy / Sensitivity patch test is performed prior to any chemical service.” There is an excellent example of step-by-step salon skin patch test instructions on the Organic Color Systems website.

During pregnancy, it is critical to select a color line that is ammonia and bleach-free like Organic Color Systems. Dr. Mazer advises his pregnant patients to not breath chemical fumes from hair color or lighteners that contain ammonia as this could be harmful to the developing baby and should be avoided. He also recommends choosing a highlight or lowlight procedure instead of an all-over application. These procedures keep the product inside of the foils, protecting the scalp from coming in contact with the hair color. This reduces the risk of product being absorbed into the skin.

During pregnancy, a woman may become more sensitive to smells. If you have to sit under the dryer, consider asking for a cloth, towel, or even a mask to diffuse the smell from the air that is blowing downward towards your face.

It is important during this delicate time to know exactly what is being put on, or in the body. By consulting with a physician, taking all recommended precautions, and by using Organic Color Systems and Organic Care Systems, pregnant women won’t sacrifice their health, beauty, or the well being of the precious life growing inside of them.

Anyone who has ever been in a hair salon has some idea that harsh chemicals are being used there. The smell is the first giveaway. And many people who get their hair colored have experienced the burning sensation when a little bit of bleaching agent comes in contact with their scalp. Some who are more sensitive experience itchy, watery eyes the whole time their hair is being processed.

You might have had the unfortunate experience of having a strand of bleach-covered hair hit you directly in the eye. Although it may have been a tiny amount and you flushed your eye afterwards, the eye will stay bright red and your vision may be blurry for several days.

For those with allergies or even just increased sensitivity, a product with mostly natural ingredients like Organic Salon Systems might be a better answer.

The fact is that most hair coloring and perming products contain harsh chemicals like ammonia, sulfates and synthetic fragrance that are known skin and lung irritants. Not everyone has the same level of reaction to these irritants and some with higher levels of sensitivity will have an increased reaction. Because certain chemicals build up in the system over time, a person can develop sensitivity to one or more of these chemicals from increased exposure. It’s not just the hair salon that’s exposing you, either. Sulfates and synthetic fragrance can be found in almost every shampoo and hair care product you can buy at the grocery store.

The American Academy of Pediatrics lists “chemicals used in industry” as one of the more common causes of allergies. These include cosmetics and perfumes as well as cleansers and household detergents. These products can be hard to avoid because they are so widespread.

But there are products out there that do not contain these irritants. Organic Salon Systems carries a line of Color, Care and Control products with no sulfates and using natural fragrances. These are salon-only, high-quality products. So there is no need to worry that you’ll be washing your hair with an all-natural product that dries your hair or leaves it oily, like some of the products you may have tried at the health food store. If you have ever experienced allergies or chemical sensitivities to any of the many chemicals in hair products you should try something like Organic Salon Systems. Natural products could make all the difference.

At Organic Envy Salon, we only use Organic Color Systems Hair Color. It is one of the only certified vegan, animal cruelty free, paraben free, ammonia free and formaldehyde free organic hair color line on the market.

Ammonia affects different people in different ways. I’ve seen this happen in salons time and time again.

Client Number One has her hair colored with a product that contains ammonia apparently without any side effects at all. Client Number Two has her hair colored using the same product and ends up with headaches, stinging eyes, trouble breathing or a nasty rash. Or ends up in bed feeling terrible.

I’ve talked with many hairdressers and hundreds of clients about this and the most common answer goes something like this: “It’s the price you have to pay if you want your hair colored”.

Often the clients will add “Thank goodness I don’t have to get it done every week”. Or “I figure every 6 or 8 weeks can’t do too much harm.”

There’s plenty of information available about the adverse effects of ammonia. It’s no secret. Ask any doctor or check it out on the Internet. You’ll find statements like this:

“Inhalation of lower concentrations in the air or solution can cause coughing, and nose and throat irritation. It can also produce rapid skin or eye irritation. Ammonia’s odor provides adequate early warning of its presence, but ammonia also causes olfactory fatigue or adaptation, reducing awareness of one’s prolonged exposure at low concentrations”.

At the same time as ammonia is getting into your eyes and lungs, it’s getting into the cuticle of the hair. In fact the shaft of hair is starting to resemble Swiss cheese.

Ammonia not only negatively affects the cuticle of the hair, it also damages the amino acid or protein called Tyrosine which is found inside the hair shaft. Tyrosine is responsible for producing melanin (the natural pigment in the hair shaft).

When the Tyrosine is damaged, the hair’s ability to hold onto color is greatly reduced (or eliminated altogether). When you introduce color into the hair shaft without damaging the Tyrosine the color lasts longer because the color has something to bond to.

Organic Color Systems’ colors do not compromise the state of the hair’s cuticle, therefore, the shine and the length of time that the color lasts is superior to ammonia based colors.

The protein balance in the hair is also left intact so you don’t get unwanted warmth coming into the hair which also promotes the longevity of color.

And without the odor, all that is left is better color, with no fading, and happier, healthier clients.

Contact us and experience 100% ammonia free hair color. Once you’ve tried it, you will never use anything else…

1) Unpredictable Results
Let’s face it, most of you box color users out there did not attend cosmetology school, and are lacking what we in the business call the “laws of color.” You probably aren’t sure exactly what color your hair is when the color is processing, or when to take off the color to achieve your most desired result. You probably don’t know what colors to mix to cancel out undesired tones in your hair, and we don’t expect you to. But, because of these reasons, box color is more like a box of chocolates: “you never know what you’re gonna get…”

2) One Size Does Not Fit All
So, let’s think about this logically. Box color is formulated so that everyone and anyone can use it, but not everyone’s hair type, condition or color is even remotely the same. In fact, most box dyes are formulated with maximum amounts of pigment and developer, so that it is able to work on most people. The chances are if you have already dyed your hair previously, your processed hair isn’t going to need that strong of a developer; don’t damage it more by getting one size fits all box color. You do not want this ‘one size fits all’ mentality when choosing your hair color. Instead, seek a hair professional with expert knowledge who will be able to accurately create a color for you and only YOU!

3) Regrowth Troubles
Again, you probably thought your regrowth would look like the rest of your head because that’s what the pretty lady on the box looks like, right? WRONG! I know this may seem repetitive, but it’s all about the ability to customize. Your regrowth is virgin hair, and the remainder of your head is more than likely already processed, or has seen some damage due to UV exposure or styling. Do you think that you can pair up a box color for your regrowth with the right box color for the rest of your hair without it looking like two different colors? Probably not, so leave it to the professionals.

4) Box Color Is Only One Color
This idea ties in both Number 2 and Number 3. We already know that your regrowth will need a different color formulation than the rest of your head, but how about when you want some actual dimension? Or how about if you want a hair color that takes a little more skill than an all over color application, like the much sought after, Ombre look? You will not be able to achieve that with the one color present in a box. Note: Most hairdressers never use less than 2 different colors to mix your desired color – customization!

5) Ammonia
Most permanent hair color from a box work through the use of ammonia. The corrosive nature of ammonia allows it to blast open your hair’s cuticle, allowing the new color particles to penetrate the hair, and irreversibly changing the hair’s pH to an undesirable level. When the hair’s cuticle has been blasted open with ammonia it has difficulty closing back up. Think about it, an unclosed cuticle means major damage/split ends and inability for the hair to lock in color (fading). And guess what? The more you use ammoniated color, the more your hair will fade, causing you to dye your hair more often, causing hair and wallet distress. Not to mention that ammonia damages the hair’s natural Tyrosine levels; Tyrosine is a naturally occurring amino acid that makes up the protein in your hair and is responsible for the natural pigment. And that’s not all! Ammonia damages your scalp’s sebaceous oil glands, inhibiting its ability to create the hair’s natural oils that contribute to your hair’s much needed moisture. Remember this formula for healthy hair: Protein + Mositure + Proper pH. And what did we just learn? Ammonia destroys the balance of all of those essential components of your hair.

6) High Levels of PPDs
Recall, we said that box colors contain superfluous amounts of pigment and developer. What does that mean for you? Well, the pigment we are referring to is the pigment necessary for all PERMANENT hair color, PPD, also known as p- phenylenediamine, and many other derivatives that are just as harmful. Unfortunately, box color has an excessive amount of PPDs, causing an increase in allergies worldwide, as more and more individuals are dying their hair. Hair dye allergies are on the rise, causing unsightly reactions and in some cases, fatality. What’s worse? You may not be allergic to PPD this time, but with continued high exposure to this chemical you can become sensitive at any time! It is advised to seek out a permanent hair color line with low PPD and no derivatives, so that likelihood for an allergic reaction is significantly decreased.

7) Metallic Salts
There are still box dyes on the market today that use Metallic Salts, an ingredient used in hair color since the 1800s. You don’t use Candlestick Phones from the 1890s, right? Why not think the same way with your hair and treat yourself to some innovation. Metallic salts build up on the hair, causing each time you use that box dye or Henna (the supposed natural hair color) for your hair to darken past your desired result. Not to mention that if you ever want to go lighter, Metallic Salts are difficult to remove for even the most savvy hairdresser (we’ve seen lots of smoke and smells, it’s not pretty). What’s worse? The building up of the Metallic Salts will over time begin to make the hair feel hard to the touch.

8) That $10 Box Color Won’t Feel That Affordable After a $300 Color Correction
So, you decided not to listen to the other 7 reasons because you still think you know best. Well, orange you the hair expert… We say orange, because that is often the color your hair will turn when attempting to color (especially lighten) with box color. Do your hair and wallet a favor, don’t spend $10 on box color, and then $300 on a color correction.
